When i walk around Punjab area, i saw many food place use "Dhaba" name. From the history, Dhaba is the name given to roadside restaurants in India and Pakistan. They are situated on highways and generally serve local cuisine, and also serve as truck stops.
They are most commonly found next to petrol stations, and most are open 24 hours a day. Since most Indian truck drivers are of Punjabi descent, and Punjabi food and music is quite popular throughout India, the word dhaba has come to represent any restaurant that serves Punjabi food, especially the heavily spiced and fried Punjabi fare preferred by many truck drivers.
Because of that now every Punjabi resto inside and outside India use "Dhaba" words, to make it clear like an identity , this is Punjabi food place. Even no truck driver there :)
This is new for me, because i never saw, food place use "dhaba" name around south and west area of india that i ever visit before.
And they say, Brother's Dhaba is number one Dhaba in Amritsar. I just curious how the food taste like. I decide have my lunch here and order some plate of thali.
For me the taste just normal, nothing special. Even not tasty :(. The portion is big, for one package thali enough for feed 2 person. If you want go here, just take auto rickshaw, from Golden Temple cost you around 20 Rs.
